Tour 9 – The Five Province Circle

Siem Reap - Banteay Chhmar - Anlong Veng - Preah Vihear - Tban Meanchey - Kampong Thom - Siem Reap

Duration:

6 day / 5 nights

Challenge:

3 stars, moderate to a small amount of challenge, more endurance than anything, riding on unpaved, flat national road.  This route is well divided out with stops to allow for rest throughout and down time between destinations.

An average ride time per day of 4 to 5 hours.

Tour Summary:

Our most popular tour… a great route for all seasons, minimum challenge, and exciting, good accommodation throughout.

5 provinces, 4 amazing temple complexes, 3 provincial capitals, 2 mountains, an old KR stronghold, all hotel & guesthouse accommodation and great food.  You just have to think about the bike!

Day 1:

Your dirt bike tour leader and guide will meet you at your hotel and transfer you to base camp. You will be briefed on the tour, motorcycles, safety instructions and procedures.

Depart Siem Reap, travel east to lunch in Sisophon and travel over 150 km to the pretty village of Banteay Chmmar & temple. Overnight in a local guesthouse in Samrong, the pretty provincial capital of Odar Meanchey. A number of NGO projects are being carried out in this area and a small community of expats are resident here. *Possibility of upgrade in accommodation in Osmacht Casino.

Day 2:

Depart Samrong for the Dangrek escarpment, burial place of Pol Pot and the small town of Anlong Veng. This was the last stronghold of the Khmer Rouge and is located east  a three to four hour ride. Paul provides an in-depth historical background and a tour of the mountain. Settle in for sunset and a relaxed night in this beautiful mountain camp.

Day 3:

Following breakfast and a tour of Ta Moks Villa in the town, drive 125 km through small villages along the border of Kulen Prum Tep Wildlife Sanctuary to Preah Vihear, an isolated temple in the sky.   This temple sits overlooking both Cambodia and Thailand. Accommodation on the mountain in a local guesthouse with the small market community that live at the base of the temple. Option to sleep out in hammocks.

Day 4:

Sunrise over Preah Vihear. Drive on rough roads to Tbeng Meanchey, the lively capital town of Preah Vihear Province. This is a small friendly town and a passing through point. You will be able to visit a local silk-weaving co-operative. Lively central town square with restaurants & local entertainment. Good food and accommodation available in local hotel. Drive time 5 hours, distance 130 km.

Day 5:

Stop off at Sambor Prei Kup, a seventh century complex of temples surrounded by forest before hitting Kampong Thom town, the capital town of the province set on the Stung Sen river. This is a busy market town with a selection of hotels, restaurants and entertainment.  Great food and accommodation in local hotel. Drive time 5 hours, distance 150km.

Day 7:

Return to Siem Reap after a visit to Santuk Mountain, a holy place just outside of Kampong Thom. It contains many shrines but its outstanding feature is a reclining Buddha carved on to rock, one of the largest reclining Buddha’s in the world. Flat road back to Siem Reap in time for sunset and celebrations. Check-in to your hotel and wash out the dust and aches and pains of long day’s travel. Reconvene at Hidden Cambodia’s base for dinner and drinks to celebrate the journey.

Please note*:

Groups wishing to overnight in Osmacht Casino need to add a luxurious 4* accommodation supplement.
